Phasuma offers independent consultancy and training in pharmaceutical supply management, working exclusively with international organizations, NGOs and Ministries of Health.
My lifelong career in global pharmaceutical supply management began when I worked as a pharmacy lecturer at Evelyn Hone College in Zambia (1993–1997). I witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of medicine stockouts, substandard medicines and medicines being either unavailable or unaffordable. Access to quality medicines is a fundamental human right, recognised by the UN and WHO. But for too many people, it remains a promise, not a reality.
That experience shaped my career path. I chose to specialise in pharmaceutical supply management, first at Joint Medical Store in Uganda (1997–2000), then at IDA Foundation in Amsterdam (2000–2004).
In 2004, I founded Phasuma Consultancy & Training, a name reflecting the focus on Pharmaceutical Supply Management.
An MSc and PharmD degree from Utrecht University, combined with an MBA in Strategic Management and Supply Chain, allow me to blend technical pharmaceutical knowledge with business insight.
I work WITH pharmaceutical companies and private sector entities, but never FOR them—my loyalty is to public health alone. From forecasting to stock management, emergency supply to training, every project aims at making healthcare more accessible, more reliable, and more equitable.
I also share knowledge through guest lectures at Erasmus University, Utrecht University, and the Royal Tropical Institute, and offer online courses on the Udemy platform that have reached over 11,000 students worldwide.
"Every stockout prevented is a life potentially saved. Every supply chain strengthened is a community better protected. This is what drives me!"
— Ron Wehrens

Global health funding is under attack. The Trump administration has slashed US humanitarian aid, and other major donors are following suit, shifting budgets to defence and domestic priorities. For millions in low and middle-income countries, this is devastating. Making the most of remaining funds has never been more crucial.
Since procurement is often the largest cost component of medical projects, even modest improvements can yield significant savings—without compromising quality or reliability.
I help organizations identify practical, actionable ways to optimize their pharmaceutical procurement:
Flexible approach: We can collaborate entirely remotely to keep costs down, or start with an on-site visit to your country or project to meet your team and study your systems in detail—then continue the analysis remotely. Choose what works best for your situation.
Discuss Your Procurement ChallengesReview of your procurement data through multiple optimization lenses
Actionable report identifying specific saving opportunities
Discussion of findings with your team (virtual or in-person)
90-day support to assist with implementation
